Bio
Tyrone Blea got out of Dodge City, KS, when he was 18. He moved east to a bigger locale, where he pursued a degree in fine arts at the Kansas City Institute of Art, a place known for making and breaking some of the world's greatest talents. As a freshman, Tyrone - who specialized in installation and performance art - became acquainted with classmate Theo Parrish, a DJ who introduced him to the world of urban dance music. Tyrone, as the saying goes, was hooked.
The influence of deep, soulful loops and the syncopated rhythms of Theo's gritty art school dance sets inspired Tyrone to develop his own style of turntable musicianship. He found the door was open to him in the name of house. Tyrone's love of soulful house music put him on a journey that allowed him to incoporate his mastery of "live mural art" into his DJ performances in the late 1990s.
For eight years, Tyrone ventured to destinations near and far, including West Hollywood, CA, Austin, TX, and Phoenix, AZ, to establish himself as one of the most talented performers on the rise. He either collaborated with or performed on the same stages as DJ Heather, Jamie Thiennes, DJ Shadow, MURS, Z-Trip and DJ Radar. More recently he opened for the fast-tracking house-musc band Tortured Soul, out of Brooklyn, NY.
Tyrone's other performance highlights include working alongside DJ/art world music act and close friend Jim Mahfood, of Marvel and Oni Press comic fame.
Now residing in Kansas City, MO, Tyrone has expanded his plan of DJ attack, branching out with Latin, funk and ultra-deep beats to create a steady, even, driving force at clubs as well as prominent art gallery showings.
Tyrone's last major project included assistance with the art production of the short indee film 'The Agents' in New York City. In addition, he dropped soulful, deep beats for the much-anticipated premiere screening of the film in lower Manhattan in May of 2004. His portfolio of events continue to grow well past the boundaries of house music. In Tyrone's words: "I have been very fortunate to have been nurtured by so much great talent in my humble beginnings. Now I must use that knowledge to inspire others with vision and music ... and hopefully take you to that special place I refer to as the Disco Abyss!
Though the candles may burn at both ends for Tyrone Blea, he continues to build a steady following of "househeads" from coast to coast, feeding the rich, underground culture as a DJ and live mural artist. Tyrone now is working toward the production of his original material on his website: Sonicelectrojet.com.
